Wollard

American White Pelican
Wollard is an adult American white pelican who had an injured wing and couldn’t fly south last fall. He was seen out on the lake near the town of Buffalo Narrows along with another pelican, a mallard duck and a cormorant. (who were injured and brought to Healing Haven as well) As it got further into November the water all closed in with ice and it seemed the birds were doomed. Thanks to a few concerned caring people from the nearby community the helpless birds were reported to the WRSOS hotline. Volunteers and the search and rescue team in the area were able to rescue the birds out on the thin ice!! Wollard spent the long winter months healing his wing and eating tons of fresh fish in the comfort of his heated indoor enclosure. Now that spring has arrived a very large flight pen is being constructed, complete with a large pond to swim and catch fish in! Wollard’s wing has healed nicely and he will be ready for release by midsummer!
