Ozzie

Meet Ozzie, the Great Horned Owl:

This Great Horned Owl was found as an orphan chick 4 years ago north of Pilot Butte on pastureland.  Attempts were made to see if the parents were around but they did not appear for a number of days.  The landowner then brought Ozzie in to the care of Jim Elliott.

As it was a young bird, attempts to have it not imprint on humans as parents were made in that first month of care.  Unfortunately, she (we think it is female as both sexes are almost identical) has become imprinted and habituated around people.  She does, however, like her privacy.

Ozzie is capable of flying and does in the outdoor enclosure.  She is fed regularly live or dead mice and appears to be content.  She does hoot in the evenings but only clicks its beak when around Jim.

She can be put into a smaller traveling cage and makes a few regular visits to schools and parks in the province.
