Foster “Goldie”, a male goldfinch
“I was found as a young fledgling. My wing was hurting, and this lady saw me hopping along. I was scared when she tried to catch me, but she took me in and cared for me. She gave me good food, some seeds and a nice warm place to hang out.
My wing has basically healed, even though it is a bit out of place. I am still able to fly pretty well. This lady kept me for a while and I appreciated the support she gave me. She could not keep me, and I was taken to a new place where I got to live in a larger cage. I was scared at first, but I have gotten used to my new home. I still get my seeds and water, and I can hear birds nearby. “
“I sure hope I get to fly more and be outside, but for now I am happy enough to not be in the cold outside since I sure wasn’t able to fly south in the fall.”
“Anyone who wants to help pay for my seeds and such– that sure would be appreciated.” (Click on photo to enlarge)
Update:
Goldie was successfully released from the aviary where he had a chance to get acclimatized for a couple weeks. His calls had brought many other goldfinches to the yard to eat the nyger seed. I left the aviary door open one day, and he eventually flew out to freedom, to join the other goldfinches in the area. Jan Shadick is raising other birds, and needs your support!
